TRENTON, N.J. — Portland watched a potential stellar pitching effort quickly disappear Thursday night.

Instead, Aaron Judge blasted reliever Madison Younginer’s 1-0 pitch high over the left-field wall to give the Trenton Thunder a 3-2 10th-inning walk-off victory in their home opener over the Sea Dogs at Arm & Hammer Park, snapping Portland’s three-game winning streak.

It was the first game of a season-opening, seven-game trip for the Sea Dogs, who dropped to 3-4 on the season.

Lost in the defeat was a stellar effort from the Sea Dogs’ starter, right-hander Luis Diaz, who looked strong over his 89-pitch, 51/3 innings as he scattered five hits and recorded six strikeouts. In his previous start during the season-opening doubleheader April 11, Diaz allowed two runs and five hits over four innings.

Simon Mercedes relieved Diaz and pitched out of a one-out jam in the sixth and went on to hold Trenton (4-3) hitless and record three strikeouts in his 22/3 innings.

Dayan Diaz looked to pick up his second save of the season when he took over in the ninth with a 2-1 lead, but he issued a one-out single to Eric Jagielo, who moved to second on a wild pitch. He scored one out later when Mason Williams singled to right. Williams moved to second on a passed ball, but Diaz struck out Cito Culver to end the inning.

“We had a good pitching performance from (Luis) Diaz and Mercedes,” said Sea Dogs Manager Billy McMillon.

“We’ll look to get our bats going tomorrow.”

Portland’s Carlos Asuaje, who extended his hitting streak to four games, lined a 1-2 pitch to center that broke a 1-1 tie and scored Jonathan Roof, who walked to begin the eighth inning.

Earlier, the Sea Dogs were handcuffed by Thunder starter Miguel Sulbaran, who kept them off balance with his array of off-speed pitches and retired the first 12 batters.

In the bottom of the fourth, Trenton’s Jake Cave singled and stole second, but Luis Diaz got Greg Bird to hit a dribbler back to the mound and then struck out Gary Sanchez swinging to end the inning.

Keury De La Cruz broke a 12-out slump when he picked up the Sea Dogs’ first hit with a leadoff single to right in the fifth. He stole second and Marco Hernandez walked, but Roof bounced to short to end the inning.

De La Cruz tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh with his second homer of the season, this an an inside-the-park homer when he lined a ball down the left-field line that Williams lost in the corner.

Cruz circled the bases and was nearly thrown out at the plate when third baseman Mike Miller’s throw to catcher Gabby Sanchez was just wide of the plate.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Williams hit a ball deep in the hole at short and Hernandez’s throw pulled Jantzen Witte off the bag.

Culver followed with a smash to left that De La Cruzcouldn’t field on the warning track and Williams scored on his double for a 1-0 lead.

NOTES: Portland had a league-best road record of 42-28 last season. … Both teams began the night with 3-3 records before a crowd of 6,495. … Trenton had won its first three, then dropped three straight one-run games.
