LEMPSTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire man says his fiance had her hair and foot burned by a lightning strike across the road that made its way into the bathroom of their Lempster home.

Harvey Ferland says his fiancee – Rebecca Welch – began screaming and came running out of the bathroom of their home on Unity Springs Road on Wednesday morning.

He told WMUR-TV that lightning struck across the road, after what he described as a loud “boom” that sounded like “a bomb.”

Ferland said first responders insisted she go to the hospital to be checked out after she told them she had numbness down one arm and leg.

“It burned her hair and struck her foot,” he said. “She’s got a little burn on her foot, and it singed her hair.”

The lightning also knocked out power to the neighborhood, so Welch’s father went up the road to call 911, WMUR reports.

Ferland thinks the lightning may have traveled through the wires and into the breaker box in their bathroom.
