LYNN, Mass. — Police and witnesses say a good Samaritan who came to the aid of an elderly man who was being assaulted following a traffic accident in Lynn was himself shot by the assailant who then fled the scene.

The Daily Item of Lynn reports that it started early Wednesday afternoon when a motorcycle blew a tire and hit the elderly man’s car.

The motorcyclist then assaulted the older man, bruising his eyes and face and knocking him unconscious. He was taken to the hospital.

The motorcyclist fled the scene, but returned a short time later on a bicycle and fired three shots, hitting a 50-year-old man who came to the driver’s aid. Police say he is expected to be OK.

The suspect then fled a second time and remains at large.
