A man charged with drunken driving after crashing his truck Wednesday evening now faces an additional charge of cultivating marijuana.

Maine State Police Trooper Chris Rogers said John Young, 54, of Litchfield, was arrested after his 1999 GMC pickup went off Hallowell-Litchfield Road about 6:25 p.m. and struck a tree.

Rogers said Young, who was alone in the vehicle, was uninjured and walked 200 yards down the road to his mother’s house, where he also lived.

Several of Young’s relatives told investigators that they were concerned that Young might be growing marijuana at the home.

Troopers found 63 marijuana plants at Young’s mother’s property, both inside and outside the house.

Young was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence and taken to the Kennebec County jail, where he was additionally charged with cultivating marijuana. His bail was set at $500, and he was scheduled for an initial hearing Thursday.
