A Portland police officer and his canine partner took home the top honor from a patrol dog competition in Massachusetts Friday.

Officer Christian Stickney and Blaze placed first overall at Northeast K9 Unlimited’s Police K9 Challenge in Raynham, Massachusetts, said Portland Lt. Robert Doherty.

Thirty teams from all over the Northeast were judged on speed, agility, narcotics detection, vehicle apprehension and more, Doherty said.

He said the team won a similar competition in New York State last year.
