Maine’s highest court has ruled against a man who appealed his conviction on domestic violence assault charges stemming from a brawl with his ex-girlfriend and stepdaughter.

Stanley Fletcher was sentenced to two concurrent 90-day jail terms for using “offensive force” during the altercation. On appeal, Fletcher argued that he acted in self-defense during the incident. Court records say Fletcher described the fight as a “drunken free-for-all” to a police officer.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled on Tuesday that evidence supports a lower court’s finding that state disproved the self-defense justification beyond a reasonable doubt.
