Sanford firefighters responded to a Davidson Avenue house after a report of a lightning strike, but determined that the bolt did not hit the building but instead struck nearby.

The lightning strike, shortly before 9 a.m., did however knock out power and cause one of the home’s smoke detectors to malfunction, leading to a brief evacuation.

Nobody was injured and the building was not damaged.
