WELLS — Kate Schott had 11 assists and eight aces, and Wells began its first varsity volleyball season with a 3-1 win Friday against Lake Region.

Halee Ramsdell added eight aces and five kills, while Michelle Desjardins and Julia Michie combined for 10 digs in the 25-23, 25-13, 18-25, 25-18 victory.

DEERING 3, PORTLAND 0: Delaney Donovan and Kaylee Helmick each served four aces and Gabriela Legaspi had four kills to lead Deering to a 25-15, 25-5, 25-14 win over visiting Portland in the first varsity match for both teams.

FALMOUTH 3, GREELY 2: Lydia Farmer had 17 kills to lead the Yachtsmen to a 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12 win at Falmouth.

YARMOUTH 3, GORHAM 1: Heather Clark had nine kills and Alison Clark recorded eight kills while leading the Clippers to a 15-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 victory against Gorham in Yarmouth.

THORNTON ACADEMY 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Ashley Howe had five blocks, four kills and two aces as the Golden Trojans defeated the visiting Red Riots, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

PORTLAND 4, CHEVERUS 1: Isabel Stehli had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Bulldogs past the Stags.

Grace LaGrange opened the scoring for Portland 24 minutes into the game, converting the first of Chessa Hoekstra’s two assists. Inez Braceras scored from Stehli for a 2-0 lead before Katie Gordon struck from 25 yards for the Stags.

Stehli restored the two-goal lead with a 30-yard shot just before halftime. Kate Johnson added another long goal early in the second half.

THORNTON ACADEMY 5, MASSABESIC 0: Hannah Niles scored all three goals as the Trojans built a 3-0 halftime lead on the way to a victory in Saco.

Faith Sinclair and Sam Dow added second-half goals.

Niles opened the scoring two minutes into the game, knocking home the rebound of Cassidy Cochrane’s shot. They repeated that scenario nine minutes later, and Niles headed Olivia Libby’s cross into the net late in the half.

Sinclair flicked home a rebound early in the second half, and Dow scored from Barrett Campbell with 1:22 remaining.

GREELY 5, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Anna DeWolfe notched a pair of goals, and Izzy Hutnak added a goal and two assists as the Rangers defeated the Raiders at Cumberland.

Jocelyn Mitiguy finished with a goal and an assist, and starting keeper Courtney Sullivan scored an unassisted goal in the second half.

FALMOUTH 7, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Madison Wolf scored three goals and Mia Cooney added a pair for Falmouth in a win over the visiting Patriots.

Marcy Kittredge and Grace Connolly also scored.

YORK 5, LAKE REGION 0: Maddi Amidon scored a pair of goals to lead the Wildcats past the Lakers at York.

Shannon Todd, Peyton Humphrey and Halee Bando added one goal each.

GORHAM 13, MCAULEY 1: Hallie Shiers scored three goals and Meghan Perrin and Emma Smith each had two as the Rams handled the Lions at Portland.

Catherine Reed scored for McAuley.

TRAIP ACADEMY 4, NYA 2: The Rangers scored three straight goals in the first half and held off the Panthers at Yarmouth.

Emma Auclair converted a penalty kick, Sadie Humiston scored unassisted, and Lilly Kemp got an assist from Olivia Lawrence for Traip.

PINE TREE ACADEMY 4, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 1: Alex Goodman recorded two goals and Grace Johnson and Renee Picard also scored for the Breakers (1-0) against the Lions (0-1) at Freeport.

Clarissa Jones scored with an assist from Carly Kinney for GPCS.

SACOPEE VALLEY 2, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: McKenzie Murphy converted a penalty kick and Coral Hartford added a goal on an assist from Courtney Ryan to lead the Hawks past the Seagulls at Old Orchard Beach.

DEERING 1, WESTBROOK 0: Kerry Wells scored on a reverse-stick backhanded shot off a penalty corner with 2:13 left in the first overtime to give the Rams (1-1) a win over the Blue Blazes (0-2) at Westbrook.

PORTLAND 3, BIDDEFORD 0: Lauren McIntyre scored two goals late in the first half as Portland (2-0) blanked Biddeford (0-1) at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Taylor Sargent knocked in the first goal for the Bulldogs.

Portland goalie Gianna Gaudet completed the shutout with 20 saves.

SANFORD 6, NOBLE 1: Liz Helmreich assisted on the first five goals as the Spartans (2-0) downed Noble (0-2) at Sanford.

Morgan Champagne scored the first two goals, followed by Marissa Nance, Bridget Duckworth and Kyleigh Cote as the Spartans took a 5-0 lead into the break.

Noble’s Delaney Blaisdell scored 10 minutes into the second half. Cote got the final goal, assisted by Allison L’Heureux.

CHEVERUS 1, WINDHAM 0: Hannah Abbott put in the game’s only goal from a scramble with 12:25 remaining as the Stags (2-0) edged the Eagles (0-2) at Windham.

Elise Bourassa made three defensive saves for Cheverus. Kat Kane and Diedre Sanborn split time in goal, combining for six saves.

SACOPEE VALLEY 2, NYA 1: Lynne Hebert lifted a shot over the keeper’s shoulder midway through the second overtime to give Sacopee Valley (2-0) a win over the Panthers (1-1) at South Hiram.

NYA’s Keeley Bartolini and Sacopee’s Haiden Sawyer traded goals in the first half.

LAKE REGION 3, GREELY 1: Molly Christensen scored the go-ahead goal with 2:26 left in the first half, and the Lakers beat the Rangers at Cumberland.

Olivia Deschenes got the first of her two goals midway through the first half to give Lake Region a 1-0 lead. Greely tied the game four minutes later on a goal by Maddy Perfetti.

Deschenes made it 3-1 in the opening minutes of the second half.

MARSHWOOD 6, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Hannah Costin scored four goals to boost the Hawks (1-1) over the Red Riots (1-1) at South Portland.

Leah Glidden and Alexis Tworkowski also scored. Shannon Giblin needed just one save to record the shutout.

YARMOUTH 4, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Abby McDowell scored once in each half to lead the Clippers (2-0) past the Patriots (0-2) at Yarmouth.

Brea Morrill recorded three assists, and Emily Martin and Molly Wilson contributed first-half goals.

FREEPORT 6, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Bailey Coffin had three goals and an assist to pace the Falcons (1-0) to a victory over Cape Elizabeth (0-2) at Freeport.

Chloe Davidson and Maya Egan each finished with a goal and an assist.

MORSE 4, LINCOLN ACADEMY 1: Katie Moore scored two goals, and Vanessa St. Pierre and Emma Warner had one apiece as the Shipbuilders (1-0) won in Newcastle.

Lauren Hunt scored with an assist from Kate Laemmle for Lincoln.

BOOTHBAY 3, TELSTAR 1: Jo Shaw, Nicole Clarke and Sydney Meader scored to lead the Seahawks (1-0) past the Rebels (0-1) at Bethel.
