A 27-year-old Springvale man was arrested Tuesday night and charged with the robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Sanford.

Keith Hammonds was arrested in Belgrade by Sanford police with the assistance of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. Police say Hammonds was armed with a knife when he entered a 7-Eleven around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. He fled the store after taking an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones.

Hammonds is charged with robbery, a Class A offense, and is being held on $2,000 cash bail.

Jones said Hammond was taken into custody without incident at the home of his mother and sister. Police had learned Hammonds was staying with family in Belgrade and obtained a warrant to search the home for evidence of the crime.

Hammonds was taken to the Kennebec County Corrections Facility.
