A 42-foot fishing boat that sank at its mooring in Stonington Harbor on Friday was successfully pulled from the water Saturday afternoon by a salvage team including members of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The team spent several hours Saturday using air-filled devices to raise the Marley Gabriela from about 70 feet of water, said David Lebrecht, a Coast Guard spokesman.

“The vessel is out of the water now,” Lebrecht said Saturday evening. “Divers refloated it and it was towed to Billings marina, where it was hauled out of the water.”

The effort included several local fishermen and representatives of the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Office of the Harbor Master.

Lebrecht declined to release the owner’s name while the cause of the sinking is under investigation.

The sinking was reported at 1:30 p.m. Friday, when the boat was carrying about 700 gallons of fuel. The sinking and salvage caused no injuries or significant pollution, Lebrecht said, though some fuel leakage was spotted on Friday.
