Several people were injured Sunday morning when two vehicles collided on Route 1 in Bridgewater.

Maine State Police trooper Jared Sylvia said in a news release that a car driven by Dorothy Holyoke-Cosme was traveling northbound when it skidded on black ice. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound pickup truck that was hauling a snowmobile trailer.

Holyoke-Cosme had to be extricated from her car. Holyoke-Cosme, her husband and her grandchildren were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, James Small, was not hurt. Small’s truck sustained extensive damage. His snowmobile trailer was destroyed as a result of the crash.

The hometowns of those involved in the accident were not immediately available.

Bridgewater is located north of Houlton in Aroostook County.
