Rocco Grimaldi scored twice in the third period as the Portland Pirates reeled off three straight goals for a 4-2 win over the St. John’s IceCaps Friday night at Cross Insurance Arena.

Grimaldi broke a 1-1 tie 1:59 into the third. Rob Schremp got his 17th goal of the season on a power play at 12:07 before Grimaldi picked up his ninth goal 46 seconds later.

The Pirates led 1-0 after one period on a goal by Cameron Gaunce.

St. John’s converted a power play for the only goal of the second period, by Bud Holloway. Mark MacMillan scored the IceCaps’ final goal with three seconds left.

Mike McKenna made 27 saves for his 16th win in his last 17 games.

Portland outshot St. John’s 35-20, including 17-9 in the third period.

The Pirates swept the four-game season series, outscoring St. John’s 17-5.
