AUGUSTA — Courtney Dunton hit a shot as time expired to give Hampden Academy a 42-40 win over Nokomis in a Class A North girls’ basketball quarterfinal Friday night at the Augusta Civic Center.

Bailey Donovan scored 12 points for fifth-seeded Hampden (11-8), while Dunton finished with 11.

Olivia Brown scored 16 points for fourth-seeded Nokomis (13-6).

GARDINER 43, MT. BLUE 35: Leslie Stevens scored seven points in the fourth quarter as the third-seeded Tigers (15-4) pulled away from the sixth-seeded Cougars (9-10) in a Class A North quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

Lauren Chadwick led Gardiner with 13 points and Stevens finished with 11.

Mt. Blue was led by Caitlin Kane with 12 points, including three 3-pointers.

MESSALONSKEE 64, WATERVILLE 44: Sophie Holmes made six 3-pointers and finished with 34 points for the second-seeded Eagles (16-3) against the seventh-seeded Panthers (9-11) in a Class A North quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

McKenna Brodeur added 15 points for Messalonskee, which led 31-13 at halftime.

Waterville was led by Fotini Shanos with 17 points.

LAWRENCE 63, SKOWHEGAN 33: Camryn Caldwell and Nia Irving each scored 18 points as the top-seeded Bulldogs (19-0) handled the ninth-seeded Indians (7-13) in Augusta.

Morgan Boudreau and Molly Folsom chipped in seven points apiece for the Bulldogs, who built a 40-8 lead in the first half.

HERMON 49, MT. DESERT ISLAND 39: Emi Higgins scored 15 points to lead the seventh-seeded Hawks (12-8) to an upset over the second-seeded Trojans (17-2) in a Class B North quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Kelsey Shaw paced MDI with 13 points.

PRESQUE ISLE 51, JOHN BAPST 35: The third-seeded Wildcats (16-3) used a 22-4 run in the third quarter to overcome a 10-point deficit and defeat the sixth-seeded Crusaders (12-8) in a Class B North quarterfinal at Bangor.

Emily Wheaton led Presque Isle with 15 points, while Regan Nelson added 12.

Crystal Bell had 12 points for John Bapst.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

BRUNSWICK 4, GORHAM 3: Jared Hummer scored a pair of goals, including the winner late in the third period, as the Dragons (9-7-1) held off the Rams (7-10) at Watson Arena.

Matt Deveaux and Michael Deveaux each added a goal and an assist for the Dragons, who led 3-1 going into the third period.

Carl Bear scored all three Gorham goals, including the final goal with 1:06 left after Hummer made it 4-2 just a minute earlier. Trevor Gray collected two assists.
