A house in New Gloucester was destroyed Friday evening by a fire that started in the home’s two-car garage, fire officials said in a news release.

New Gloucester Fire & Rescue was called to 454 Morse Road at 6 p.m. for a garage fire reported by neighbors and passers-by. The fire had destroyed the garage and spread to the Cape-style home when firefighters arrived, Capt. Scott Doyle said in the release. Crews put out most of the heavy fire within 30 minues.

Doyle said the residents got out of the house “as soon as they knew the garage was on fire,” and no one was injured.

New Gloucester firefighters were assisted by crews from Gray, Windham, Auburn, Poland, Durham, North Yarmouth and Pineland Security.

No further information was available late Friday night.
