READING, Pa. — Kevin McAvoy combined with two relievers to throw a three-hitter Saturday night for the Portland Sea Dogs in a 6-2 victory against the Reading Fightin Phils at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Sea Dogs (2-1) jumped out to an early lead, with two runs in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Rainel Rosario and Aneury Tavarez.

Reading (1-2) came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second on a two-run, two-out single by Christian Marrero.

Portland responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning on five consecutive two-out singles.

Mike Miller, Cole Sturgeon and Jantzen Wittee capped off the rally with consecutive RBI singles.

The Sea Dogs tacked on a run in the top of the ninth inning when Witte scored on a wild pitch.

McAvoy gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits, striking out four and walking three over five innings to earn the win in his Double-A debut.

Chandler Shepherd followed with two perfect innings, striking out two of the six batters he faced.

Luis Ysla closed out the win for Portland with two scoreless innings. Ysla struck out two and walked one while giving up one hit.

Sturgeon finished with three hits to pace a 14-hit offense for the Sea Dogs.

Witte, Rosario, Jordan Weems and Tzu-Wei Lin added two hits apiece for Portland.
