Sea Dogs postponed, doubleheader Sunday

The Portland Sea Dogs’ game against the Altoona Curve on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field was postponed because of rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Sunday.

It was the fourth postponement of the season for the Sea Dogs.

BASEBALL: Kevin Stypulkowski hit two home runs and finished with three hits and four RBI to lead Maine (19-33, 8-15 America East) to a 12-7 win over Binghamton (27-23, 19-5) at Vestal, New York.

Maine will be the sixth seed in the America East tourney.

U.S. MEN: Goalkeeper Brad Guzan will start ahead of veteran Tim Howard in the Copa America tournament.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced the 23-man roster, which features 15 players from the 2014 World Cup team. The U.S. opens the 16-nation Copa America against Colombia on June 3 in Santa Clara, California. It then plays Costa Rica four days later at Chicago and closes the first round June 11 against Paraguay in Philadelphia.

FA CUP: Coach Louis van Gaal delivered Manchester United’s first trophy since Alex Ferguson retired as coach three years ago with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace after the 135th FA Cup final went to extra time in London.

After months of rumors, the Spanish newspaper AS.com reported that Coach Jose Mourinho is set to sign a three-year deal with Manchester United.

MURRAY COACH: Amelie Mauresmo revealed the reasons for her coaching split with Andy Murray, explaining they “reached the end” of what they could achieve and he was a “complex” player to work with.

Murray became the first high-profile player to hire a woman as a coach when he took on Mauresmo in June 2014, but they ended their working relationship May 9.

STRASBOURG INTERNATIONAL: Caroline Garcia of France beat veteran Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia 6-4, 6-1 to win in France for her second career championship.

SAILORS ASSAULTED: The Spanish sailing federation said two of its sailors and a coach were assaulted at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro while training for the Olympics.

The federation said Fernando Echavarri, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the tornado class, Tara Pacheco, a former two-time world champion in the 470 class, and Coach Santi Lopez-Vazquez were “assaulted by five people armed with pistols in the middle of the street while they were going to have breakfast.”
