A 4-year-old boys drowned Sunday in a pond in St. Albans.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said the body of the boy was recovered in a man-made pond on a property off the Ballard Road.

Lancaster said the pond is about 100 yards from the boy’s home.

The boy was reported missing about 4:20 p.m. A broadcast from the Somerset County Regional Communications Center said the boy had blond hair and blue eyes and weighed about 50 pounds. He was last seen at about 2 p.m., according to the broadcast. He was wearing a Spider-Man T-shirt, orange or red shorts, and white shoes.

A Maine State Police tracking dog, sheriff’s deputies, local firefighters and game wardens took part in the search of the area where the child was reported missing.

Clues led to a farm pond next door to the boy’s house, on property owned by his uncle. The Maine Warden Service dive team responded.

The boy’s name will be released after additional family notifications have been made, the warden service said.
