CUMBERLAND — All the pieces may be falling into place at just the right time for the Kennebunk High boys’ lacrosse team.

The Rams finished the regular season Wednesday with a convincing 15-5 victory against Greely to clinch the No. 3 seed in the Class B South tournament.

It was the sixth win in seven games for Kennebunk (8-4).

“Early in the season we were trying to find our mojo,” Coach Dan Seavey said. “We were trying to get guys in the right places (and) I think we’ve found what we need to do. Guys are doing things right and things are starting to work the way we want them to.”

Kennebunk defeated the Rangers 6-5 at home on May 12.

“We watched film on this team and studied them,” said Brenden Whitten, who had five goals and an assist for Kenneunk. “We were able to figure out their weakness. Dodging was a key. Cutting through the middle.”

The Rams led 6-1 after the first quarter and 9-3 at halftime.

“Today I told (my players) we’re out for something bigger,” Seavey said. “We were out to get ready for the playoffs and we need to get going.”

Kennebunk players drew assists on 10 goals.

“We’re just sharing the ball,” Whitten said. “Even when guys have a good shot, if they see a guy who has a better shot they pass it to him.”

It was the fourth straight loss for the Rangers (5-7), who likely failed to reach the Class B South tournament as the sixth and final seed when York defeated Wells 13-9 later in the day.

“We just didn’t win the games so it’s 100 percent our fault, no matter what happens,” Coach Mike Storey said.

The Rangers had difficulty maintaining their composure in the game and it cost them. Because of Greely’s penalties, Kennebunk played with at least a one-man advantage 10 times.

The Rams scored eight goals with those advantages.

“I think we’ve lost our composure for about three weeks now,” Storey said.

“We were never able to pull things back together.”

The Rams held a 30-15 edge in shots.

Spencer Thibodeau had two goals and four assists for Kennebunk. Dante DeLorenzo scored two goals. Patrick Gassman, Cameron Lovejoy and Donovan Connor each had a goal and an assist. Tripp Bush and Colin Yates also scored.

Ben Kennedy and Alex Wetmore each scored a goal and had an assist for the Rangers. Alex Kroot, Sam Peck and Joshua Lawless also scored.

When asked to explain Kennebunk’s late-season success, Whitten said, “It’s been a little bit of everything, really. Good goaltending. Good defense. On offense, we’re really spreading the ball. We’ve got a bunch of guys on offense who are scoring threats. Even if they lock off one (player), we still score with other people.”

The Rams made an impression on Storey.

“Kennebunk is a great team,” he said.

“They’re doing good things right now and they’re headed in the right direction.
