Voters in Regional School Unit 21 approved a $43 million education budget on Tuesday.

Residents of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel voted 2,828 to 1,276 in favor of the spending package.

The budget is up $2.9 million, or 7.43 percent, an increase driven largely by debt service for construction projects at the high school and two elementary schools in the district.

Kennebunk residents voted 1,602 to 702 in favor of the budget and 1,645 to 642 in favor of continuing budget votes.

Kennebunkport residents voted 527-173 in favor of the budget and 492-200 in favor of continuing budget votes.

Arundel residents votes 699-401 in favor of the budget and 594-499 in favor of continuing budget votes.

Arundel voters also soundly rejected spending $45,000 to pursue withdrawing from RSU 21. That plan was rejected by a vote of 255-767.
