Church accepting requests for Thanksgiving Day meals

The Old Orchard Beach United Methodist Church is accepting reservations for its 12th annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner and Delivery Service, set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Old Orchard Beach United Methodist Church, 6 Fountain Ave.

The church plans to serve about 300 meals on Thanksgiving Day throughout the Saco Bay area.

The church offers rides to and from the meal for people living in Old Orchard Beach, Saco or Biddeford. They can also deliver meals to individuals and families within that same area.

Signups for either service can be made by leaving a message on the church phone at 934-5553 or by sending an email to info@oobumchurch.org.

Spurwink director receives nursing leadership award

Spurwink Mental Health Center director Catherine Lorello-Snow has received the 2016 Agnes E. Flaherty Leadership in Nursing Award from the American Nursing Association of Maine.

Lorello-Snow is Spurwink’s director of nursing at Spurwink Adult Services and director at the Spurwink Portland Help Center, a nonprofit in Portland that provides behavioral health and educational services for children, adults and families across Maine.

At the award ceremony, Lorello-Snow was praised for her passionate commitment to community-based outpatient psychiatric treatment and nursing. She is the president-elect of ANA-Maine.

St. Lawrence Arts gets grant to pay for wheelchair lift

St. Lawrence Arts has received a $25,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation to support the replacement of the wheelchair lift, estimated to cost $36,000. Through a combined effort of grants and fundraising events, the organizations hopes to have a new lift in place by 2017.

People United Foundation awards grant to SCORE

A People’s United Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant, to SCORE, the nation’s largest volunteer business mentoring service, a nonprofit association that provides mentoring to individuals in business. The grant will provide 17 business fundamental workshops in the coming months.

“We appreciate the generous support of People’s United Community Foundation to further our mission of fostering business communities through mentoring and education,” said Nancy Strojny, chapter president of SCORE.
