The state Medical Examiner’s Office has completed an autopsy on a body found this week in Cape Elizabeth, but investigators are still trying to determine the identity.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting the results of further tests, according to administrator Mark Belserene. No other information about the autopsy has been released.

The body was discovered by a person who was walking on town-owned Cliff House Beach on Tuesday. Cape Elizabeth Police Chief Neil Williams said this week that there was no apparent identification on the body. Police officers determined that the person was white, but the body was so decomposed that they couldn’t tell whether it was a man or a woman.

Cape Elizabeth and South Portland don’t have any active missing-person cases. Portland police are looking for Evariste Munyensanga, 29, who was last seen Nov. 18 at his apartment on Cumberland Avenue. Police do not believe he’s a match to the Cape Elizabeth body because Munyensanga is black.

Maine State Police are assisting with the investigation.
