The Sanford Fire Department and seven surrounding towns late Wednesday evening were able to bring under control a fire that starated at a local lumberyard.
Lt. Eric Beecher said that when crews arrived just before 9 p.m., they encountered a fire in the sawmill building of Pleasant River Lumber Yard at 563 New Dam Road.
Firefighters battled the fire for about an hour before they were able to knock it down. Crews were expected to remain on the scene until the early-morning hours cleaning up damage and searching for a cause.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified.
No injuries were reported.
