ORONO — Tyler Schwanz scored the winning run on a ninth-inning wild pitch in the first game, and Caleb Kerbs lined a two-run single in the second game as Maine swept an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday against Hartford, 1-0 and 3-2.

Justin Courtney and Cody Laweryson combined on a two-hitter in Game 1, with Courtney pitching eight innings before Laweryson (2-1) worked a perfect ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Schwanz drew a leadoff walk, advanced on singles by Kerbs and Jonathan Bennett, and scored on a wild pitch.

Maine (9-15, 3-2 America East) fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of Game 2, but Kerbs tied it in the bottom of the first, singling home Christopher Bec and Danny Casals. Bec scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Bennett in the third.

Jonah Normandeau (1-3) earned the Game 2 victory, allowing nine hits in six innings. Jeff Gelinas pitched the seventh for his fourth save.

Hartford fell to 7-16 overall, 1-4 in the conference.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS LASELL: Brett Barbati singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Monks (14-2, 2-0 GNAC) a 5-4 win over the Lasers (4-9, 0-2) in the first game of a doubleheader in Standish.

The Monks won 5-2 in Game 2, as Jameson Collins went 2 for 3 with two RBI.

USM SWEEPS EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE: Devin Warren scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the seventh as the Huskies (11-7, 2-0 Little East) earned a 2-1 win over the Warriors (10-6, 1-3) in Mansfield, Connecticut.

Matt Correale picked up the win, pitching 4-1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In Game 2, Dalton Rice took a shutout into the eighth inning and Andrew Olszak went 4 for 4 in a 5-2 win.

BATES SWEEPS BOWDOIN: Will Sylvia scored on Kyle Carter’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning of Game 1, and had three hits and two RBI in the second game as Bates (10-5, 6-0 NESCAC) beat Bowdoin (6-12, 0-3) twice in Waterville, 4-3 and 6-3.

RBI singles by Asher MacDonald and Ryan McCarthy in the sixth inning helped Bates break a 3-3 tie in Game 2.

Joe Gentile had five hits over the two games for the Polar Bears, and Jack Wilhoite hit a home run in the opener.

COLBY SPLITS WITH TRINITY: Tyler Mulberry drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth to lift Colby (4-12, 3-3 NESCAC) to a 3-1 win over Trinity (11-9, 1-5) in the first game of a doubleheader in Hartford, Connecticut.

Trinity won Game 2, 11-0.

CCRI SWEEPS SMCC: Carter Chaboy went 2 for 3 with a home run for Southern Maine Community College in Game 1, but the SeaWolves (5-6-1) lost twice against Community College of Rhode Island (15-3), 7-4 and 11-1, in South Portland.

SOFTBALL

MAINE SWEEPS HARTFORD: Laurine German scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the sixth and Rachel Carlson singled home Emily Gilmore as Maine (7-17, 2-0 America East) broke a 5-5 tie on the way to a 7-6 win over Hartford (3-28, 0-4) in West Hartford, Connecticut.

In Game 2, Alyssa Derrick hit a three-run homer and an RBI single, and German also homered in a 6-2 victory.

UNE SPLITS WITH WESTERN NEW ENGLAND: Melissa Jakubowski singled home two runs as part of a six-run fourth inning as the Nor’easters (8-6, 4-2 CCC) salvaged a split with a 9-3 win in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Western New England (13-3, 5-1) won the opener, 6-5.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIVIER: Meghan Elliott hit a two-run single to help the Monks (5-9, 2-2 GNAC) pull away for a 10-4 win in Game 1, and St. Joseph’s completed a sweep against Rivier (6-8, 0-2) with a 12-4 victory, in Standish.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS WESLEYAN: Allison Rutz hit a two-run double to give Bowdoin (16-6, 1-1 NESCAC) a 3-2 win over the Cardinals (8-12, 0-2) in Game 2 in Middletown, Connecticut.

The Polar Bears won the opener 7-3 as Marisa O’Toole drove in three runs.

TRINITY SWEEPS BATES: Maddie Inlow went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Bates (5-6, 0-3 NESCAC) in Game 1, but the Bobcats lost twice to Trinity (12-8, 4-1) in Hartford, Connecticut, 10-2 and 5-1.

TUFTS SWEEPS COLBY: Colby (6-10, 0-2 NESCAC) gave up 28 runs in two five-inning losses to Tufts (11-5, 2-0), 19-1 and 9-1 in Medford, Massachusetts.

Skylar Labbe went 2 for 3 and drove in a run in the second game for Colby.

SMCC SWEEPS MASSASOIT: Kaylah Abdul drove home seven runs, scored four times and stole four bases while leading Southern Maine Community College (2-2) to 12-10 and 10-2 victories over Massasoit (0-2) in South Portland.

BATES 15, MIDDLEBURY 12: Kyle Weber scored five goals and Charlie Fay added three as Bates (10-0, 7-0 NESCAC), ranked fourth in NCAA Division III, held off the Panthers (4-7, 2-5) in Lewiston.
