Historical society holds lunch featuring herb-based recipes

The Windham Historical Society’s herbal-themed lunch “Fresh from the Garden: Growing and Cooking with Fresh Herbs” will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at 28 Haskell Road.

The lunch will feature recipes that use fresh herbs from the garden. There will be a short garden tour where different herbs will be discussed. Participants can make their own herbal vinegar to bring home with them, and all materials will be provided.

Cost is $15. Space is limited, and reservations are required by calling Haley Pal at 892-7139.

Saco & Biddeford Savings offers free, confidential shredding

Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution will host a free shredding event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at its branch office, 2 Portland Ave.

Community members and businesses are encouraged to join the fight against identity theft by bringing up to two boxes of documents – such as canceled checks, old bills and invoices and medical records – for safe and confidential shredding. Shredding will be provided by Without a Trace.

The event is free and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Salvation Army food pantry. Attendees can bring a cash or food donation and receive a free gift while supplies last. Refreshments will be available.

Revolutionary War veterans, grave sites are focus of talk

The Waterborough Historical Society will host a talk by Jeannie Grant at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 31 West Road.

Grant will give a talk on Revolutionary War veterans and the locations of their graves.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Musicians will help church celebrate pipe organ renovation

Virtuoso trumpeter Thomas Kremser and organist Warren “Maestro” King will present a concert of classical and not-so-classical music at 4 p.m. Sunday at 77 Main St. to celebrate the renovation of the pipe organ at Kennebunk Baptist Church.

The renovation, including a new console, was completed by builder Robert Faucher of Biddeford.

Admission is by freewill donation, supporting the missions of Kennebunk Baptist Church.

Fall operating hours begin Tuesday at public library

The Carrabassett Valley Public Library will resume fall hours Tuesday at 3209 Carrabassett Drive.

The new hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The facility is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Maine is joining the National Homes for Dogs effort by sponsoring an Adopt a Pet event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at co-sponspor Pet Life, 200 Expedition Drive, next to Cabela’s.

There will be local animal-rescue and adoption groups there.
