BELFAST, Northern Ireland — Tim Doherty had a goal and an assist as the University of Maine men’s hockey team beat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 4-2 on Saturday in the consolation game of the 2017 Friendship Four Tournament.

Maine (5-7), which lost 3-0 to Providence in the opening round on Friday, also got goals from Brendan Robbins, Nolan Vesey and Mitchell Fossier. Freshman Jeremy Swayman made 18 saves for the win.

For RPI (2-9-3), Troy York and Jacob Hayhurst scored while Linden Marshall made 21 saves.

Robbins gave Maine a 1-0 lead at 13:56 of the first. Vesey helped Maine regain the lead at 2-1, scoring just 1:41 into the second. Mitchell Fossier’s goal just 35 seconds into the third gave Maine a two-goal lead. Hayhurst got RPI to within a goal before Doherty’s empty-net goal.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Adam Canepa and Pavel Tereshchenko scored 47 seconds apart as the Nor’easters (4-3-1) overcame an early deficit to beat the Huskies (1-6-1) in Biddeford.

BOWDOIN 6, ST. ANSELM 1: Sebastian Foster scored two goals as the Polar Bears (2-2) beat the Hawks (4-3) in the Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off in Waterville.

Pat Geary, Chris Wallace, Michael Brown and Thomas Dunleavy also scored for Bowdoin.

UMASS-BOSTON 5, COLBY 1: Nolan Redler scored twice in a win over the Mules (1-2) in Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off in Waterville. Tyler Sifferlen, Colin Larkin and Zach Cross also scored for UMass-Boston (8-1).

FOOTBALL

DELAWARE VALLEY 37, HUSSON 15: Quarterback Dashawn Darden threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns as the Aggies (12-0) beat the Eagles (10-2) in the NCAA Division II tournament in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Delaware Valley advances to face The College at Brockport in the quarterfinals.

John Smith ran for 161 yards and a touchdown for Husson.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 2, UNION 1: Catherine Tufts scored with 3:12 left to give the Black Bears (10-6-2) a win over Union (3-9-2) in Schenectady, New York.

Daria Tereshkina put the Black Bears ahead 1-0 six minutes into the game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 80, MIT 60: Kate Kerrigan had 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Lauren Petit and Abby Kelly each had 10 points, to lead Bowdoin (4-0) past the Engineers (1-2) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

WPI 60, BATES 42: Madison Beck gave the Engineers (4-0) a two-point lead late in the first half and they cruised to a win over the Bobcats (1-3) in Worcester, Massachusetts.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 82, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 60: Sam Jefferson scored 17 of his 22 points during the second half as the Mules (4-0) overcame a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring Presque Isle (2-2) 46-21 during the second half in Waterville.

Dean Weiner and Wallace Tucker added 14 points each for Colby.
