PORTLAND, Ore. — Joshua Lanford made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points and No. 4 Michigan State beat No. 9 North Carolina 63-45 on Sunday night to win the “Victory Bracket” of the PK80 Invitational.

Tom Izzo got the best of Roy Williams for the first time since Williams arrived in Chapel Hill, thanks to a dominating performance at the defensive end by the Spartans. Michigan State bullied the Tar Heels on the interior at both at both ends of the floor and getting just enough offense on a night North Carolina struggled to make anything. The Tar Heels shot just 24.6 percent.

Williams had won all seven previous matchup between the Tar Heels and Izzo’s Spartans.

Langford was key in the first half as the Spartans (5-1) built a 13-point halftime lead despite Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. being limited with foul trouble. Langford had 14 points in the first half as Michigan State used an 11-4 run to take control and was never threatened by the Tar Heels.

Miles Bridges finished with 11 points Theo Pinson led North Carolina (5-1) with 16 points.

(8) KENTUCKY 107, ILL.-CHICAGO 73: Kevin Knox scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Wildcats to a rout of the Flames to conclude play in the Adolph Rupp Classic in Lexington, Kentucky.

Kentucky Coach John Calipari reached 700 career victories, three years after he notched his 600th. The Wildcats are 6-1 while the Flames drop to 2-3.

(17) GONZAGA 76, TEXAS 71: Rui Hachimura scored a career-high 20 points, and the Bulldogs blew a 21-point second half lead before putting away the Longhorns in overtime in a consolation game at the PK80 Invitational in Portland, Oregon.

The Bulldogs (5-1) held on despite 14 turnovers in the second half. Matt Coleman led the Longhorns (4-2) with 19 points.

GEORGIA 83, (21) SAINT MARY’S 81: Reserve guard Tyree Crump scored five of his 17 points in overtime and the Bulldogs (5-1) took the third-place game of the Wooden Legacy tournament in Fullerton, California.

Jock Landale led Saint Mary’s (5-2) with 33 points.

(23) UCLA 87, UC IRVINE 63: Prince Ali scored 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half for the host Bruins (5-1).

Max Hazzard led UC Irvine (3-5) with 18 points.

WOMEN’S GAMES

(6) NOTRE DAME 92 (3) SOUTH CAROLINA 85: Arike Ogunbowale scored 23 points and the Irish took the Gulf Coast Showcase title in Estero, Florida, snapping the Gamecocks’ 17-game winning streak.

The Irish (6-0) trailed by 12 points early in the second quarter and then went on a 37-12 run.

A’ja Wilson had 34 points for South Carolina (6-1).

(13) FLA. STATE 87, SAMFORD 62: Shakayla Thomas scored 29 points and the Seminoles (6-0) rolled at home.

Hannah Nichols scored 20 points for the Bulldogs (2-4).

(15) MARYLAND 79, MIAMI 71: Ieshia Small had a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for her first double and the Terrapins won the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament.

Kaila Charles added 18 points for Maryland (5-2). Mykea Gray had 21 points for Miami (4-2).

(16) DUKE 79, PRESBYTERIAN 45: Rebecca Greenwell hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and the Blue Devils (5-1) rolled in Durham, North Carolina.

Briley Buckner scored 11 points for the Blue Hose (1-5).
