A man in his 70s died in a single-car crash in South Portland on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Department Capt. Robb Couture said the driver apparently suffered a medical event that caused the crash. The car struck a tree near 1329 Broadway around 12:30 p.m. First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
Couture said the South Portland Police Department is investigating the driver’s cause of death. He did not believe there were any passengers in the vehicle.
The road was closed for about 90 minutes between Lincoln and Main streets, but it reopened around 2 p.m.
