OGUNQUIT - A 90-year-old man was struck by a car and seriously injured Saturday afternoon on Route 1 near Shore Road in the village square.
The man, whom police declined to identify, was reported to have been struck around 3:45 p.m. by a 2001 Subaru Legacy. He was taken by ambulance to York Hospital and later transferred to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Ogunquit Police Sgt. Michael Faia said.
Route 1 southbound was closed for several hours after the accident as police investigated, Faia said.
The driver of the Subaru, whom police also declined to identify, was not charged and was released, police said.
Faia said officers investigating the accident were unable to determine what factors may have contributed to the man being struck.
