BOWDOINHAM — Maine State Police say a single vehicle rollover on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham on Sunday afternoon injured a woman and her 9-year-old daughter.

Trooper Niles Krech said the crash sent 39-year-old Angela Andrade of Massachusetts and her daughter to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. Krech would not identify the girl.

Krech said Andrade’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening, but the girl’s injuries were more serious. Their conditions were unavailable Sunday night.

Witnesses told police that Andrade appeared to reach for something in the back seat just before the crash.

Andrade’s 2007 Honda Accord went off the highway before crossing back into southbound travel lanes. The vehicle then entered a median strip and rolled over and landed on its roof.

Police and motorists were able to dig a hole in the ground and pull Andrade out a window to safety but the girl, who was in a rear passenger booster seat, mhad to be extricated, according to Krech.

The crash, which took place at 3:45 p.m., delayed southbound traffic for nearly three hours.
