Boys' basketball: Waynflete trounces Monmouth

The 78-47 win in the Western Class C quarterfinal means Waynflete will face No. 3 Dirigo Thursday.

AUGUSTA – Mohammed Suja scored 27 points, Serge Nyirkumba had 18 and Max Belleau 17 to lead Waynflete to a 78-47 victory over Monmouth Academy in a Western Class C boys’ basketball quarterfinal Monday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Waynflete, the No. 2 seed, moves on to a regional semifinal against No. 3 Dirigo at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Civic Center.

Billy Cummings led Monmouth (7-13) with 17 points. Kasey Smith added 10 for the Mustangs.

Dirigo advanced earlier in the day with a 50-47 win over No. 6 Old Orchard Beach.
