HAMPDEN — MacKenzie McHugh scored on a breakaway with 3:52 left in overtime to lift Central to its first Class C girls' soccer state championship – a 2-1 win over St. Dominic Academy on Saturday at Hampden Academy's Weatherbie Sports Complex.
The Saints (14-4) opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Courtney Costello beat a defender to a deflected ball and put it in from just beyond the 6-yard line.
Central (17-0-1) tied it 10 minutes into the second half when Brianna Speed got her foot on a loose ball inside the penalty area and poked it over the goal line.
