Cold weather in Maine settles in

Saturday, in particular, is expected to be bitterly cold, the National Weather Service forecasts.

The extreme cold gripping Maine isn’t going anywhere in a hurry.

Dressed for the cold weather, Ann Rand, parking control officer for Portland, coordinates the towing of a truck parked in a city services tow zone on North Street as crews atempt to remove snow from the last two storms. Her comment: “It’s cold!”

Ryan Lund, a worker for B&B Towing, tows a car on North Street in Portland that was parked Illegally. “Its cold!” he said. “I hope it keeps going like this. It keeps us busy.”

The National Weather Service says a cold front will cross the area early Tuesday and through New Year’s Day on Wednesday will bolster the arctic air that chills the region.

Snow is expected Thursday and Thursday night. For Thursday through Saturday, high temperatures are expected to reach only into the teens. Saturday is expected to be bitterly cold, according to the weather service forecast.
