Maine State Music Theatre announces new leadership

Curt Dale Clark's wish came true. The consulting artistic director of Maine State Music Theatre has had the word "consulting" removed from his title. The theater's board president, Don Gerrish, announced Wednesday morning that Clark will serve as artistic director of the 56-year Brunswick theater, and Stephanie Dupal was named managing director.

In a statement, Gerrish said, "We are confident that they are the right people to bring Maine State Music Theatre to the next level. The theater has been a part of Brunswick and the state of Maine for 55 years and under their leadership, Maine State Music Theatre will continue its success and thrive artistically."

Dupal, a Lisbon native, has served as general manager of the theater for 14 years, and began as business manager in 1993. In the statement, she said it was "priviledge to be entrusted with the management" of the theater.

Clark is best known for his stage work. He has acted and sang with Maine State for eight season, and also has a long work history in theater administration. This year, in addition to his work as artistic director, he played a lead role in "Les Miserables."

He made it clear from the outset of the just-completed season that he wanted the artistic director's job on an ongoing basis, and he viewed the season as an audition.

"The artistic director position is something I've been training for my whole life," he said.
