Two-time Oscar nominee John Malkovich will star as Blackbeard in NBC-TV’s drama series “Crossbones.” The series is based on Maine writer Colin Woodard’s book “The Republic of Pirates” about the golden age of piracy in the 1700s.

Woodard works as a reporter for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram.
The 10-episode series takes place in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence.
Malkovich has received two Best Supporting Actor nominations for "In the Line of Fire" and "Places in the Heart," and also starred in critically acclaimed films like "Being John Malkovich."
