PORTLAND — The Phoenix Coyotes recalled forwards Chris Brown, Chris Conner, Rob Klinkhammer, Brendan Shinnimin and Justin Szwarz as well as defensemen Brandon Gormley and Chris Summers from the Portland Pirates, their AHL affiliate.
According to Phoenix Coyotes general manager Brad Treliving, the seven players were called up to participate in team scrimmage Wednesday night at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz.
"We're trying to prepare everyone for the start of the (NHL) season, and we need to evaluate all the players we may need here," Treliving explained.
The NHL season is scheduled to start Saturday night following a 119-player lockout that ended last weekend with the approval of a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement between the team owners and the players.
