PORTLAND – Portland police are investigating a suspicious device found at the corner of Pine and State streets Tuesday evening.
The device was smaller than a baseball, officials said. It contained what police believe is gunpowder and a fuse but was determined not to be explosive, though it was flammable, police said.
The device was collected by evidence technicians with the Portland Police Department but did not require activation of the department’s bomb squad, police said. The device was found on the sidewalk by a worker in the area at about 5 p.m., police said.
