Sea Dogs blast Phillies in 12-0 romp

Jeremy Hazelbaker's 12th and 13th home runs of the season tie him for the team lead with Reynaldo Rodriguez.

PORTLAND — Jeremy Kehrt threw five perfect innings and Jeremy Hazelbaker swatted two home runs to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 12-0 romp over the Reading Phillies this afternoon, before 6,180 at Hadlock Field.

Kehrt, 26, a reliever who has been put in the starting rotation because of injuries, retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out five.

He had not pitched more than 6 2/3 innings this year and was taken out after five innings.

Chris Balcom-Miller pitched a 1-2-3 sixth, but allowed Reading's first base runner, when D'Arby Myers led off the seventh inning with a dribbling grounder between first base and the pitcher's mound, for an infield single.

Aaron Kurcz relieved in the eighth and allowed one hit.

Hazelbaker hit his 12th and 13th home runs of the season, the first clearing the message board in left-center, and the other over the left field wall. He is now tied for the team lead in home runs with Reynaldo Rodriguez.

Marquez Smith also homered for the Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs (42-56) play their next four games in Manchester, N.H. They return to Hadlock Field Monday for a 7 p.m. game against Trenton.
