The WMTW-TV station will move from downtown Portland to Westbrook in the fall, according to a news release from the news station’s owner.

The station, owned by Hearst Television and known as Channel 8 in Greater Portland, has operated out of the historic Time and Temperature building on Congress Street for the past 15 years.

The release said the station is moving to “a broadcast-ready facility,” but didn’t say where in Westbrook.

Dave Abel, WMTW’s president and general manager, said in the release that the station operates out of two locations, and the move to Westbrook “will allow us the opportunity, at some point in the future, to combine all our facilities under one roof.” The station also maintains a broadcasting facility in Auburn.

The “technical and logistical challenges” of working out of two facilities are the impetus for the change, Greg Roehr, director of engineering for WMTW, said in the news release.

Abel couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
