KENNEBUNK
School cites its veterans
Students and staff at Kennebunk Elementary School hosted an assembly last week to honor veterans in advance of today’s Veterans Day holiday.
Some 470 kindergarten through grade 3 students sat in silence while New England Cadets formed the color guard and opened a military ceremony under the direction of Maj. Bob Sanders.
Sanders is the executive officer of the Army Reserve Officer Training Program for 12 schools in Maine and New Hampshire, including the University of Southern Maine and the University of New England.
Cadets Michael Green, Sarah Oliver, Jeffery Koch, Norman Hopkins and Timothy Kelley were introduced and veteran parents and grandparents in the audience were also named and recognized for their service to America.
Grade 2 teacher Nici Roubo sang the national anthem. And the Kennebunk Elementary School Chorus performed a medley of patriotic songs.
A small reception was held for the cadets and veterans following the event, where each was presented with red and white carnations tied with blue ribbons.
