A Limerick man was seriously injured Sunday when his snowmobile crashed on Sokokis Lake in Limerick, one of four snowmobile accidents that occurred after dark across the state over the weekend.

John Morris, 37, of Eustis was seriously hurt just after midnight when his snowmobile collided with a vehicle that had rolled over on Airport Road in Eustis. Morris was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The Maine Warden Service said speed was a factor in the accident, and also in the following two crashes:

In China, David Willard, 25, of Oakland, and his passenger, Kenneth Cormier, 47, of China, were treated for moderate injuries at Maine General Hospital in Waterville after being thrown from their snowmobile when it hit a mound in a field off Stanley Hill Road around 2 a.m. Sunday.

— John Ferguson, 50, of Limerick was traveling west in dense fog on Sokokis Lake when he crashed into the shoreline near Philpot's Landing around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Ferguson was thrown from the machine into a shed near a camp.

His brother in-law, Charles Pelligrino of Limerick, found Ferguson, who was being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

In a fourth accident, Ryan Rogers, 28, of Caribou was seriously injured Saturday when he collided with a moose on Interconnecting Trail System 83 in New Sweden around 5:15 p.m.

Rogers was traveling with a group of nine snowmobiles when the moose entered the trail. He was being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The moose was euthanized.
