SOUTH BERWICK – Ryan Camire scored his 1,000th point on a 25-foot three-pointer that gave Sanford High its first lead of the game.
But it was his ability to hit free throws under extraordinary pressure that was the real difference. Camire drained four straight free throws in one-and-one situations in the final 36 seconds and No. 9 Sanford edged No. 8 Marshwood, 52-49, in Tuesday’s raucous Western Class A preliminary round game.
Camire finished with 17 points after being held scoreless in the first quarter.
Marshwood led from the outset until Camire hit his 3-pointer with 1:18 left in the third quarter.
Sanford center Alex Shain was pivotal with his defense, a huge shot block and nine points.
Marshwood’s Brady Innes scored 14 points despite foul trouble,w ith Brady Dodge adding nine.
