College Connections: Gillies hopes he’s saved the best for Friars

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Another week, another Northeast-10 diver of the week award for Nicola Mancini of Falmouth. This time the Bentley University sophomore won after sweeping the 1- and 3-meter diving events in dual meets against St. Michael’s and Saint Rose.

Wheaton College senior Adrianne Madden of Falmouth was part of the NEWMAC Relay team of the week. Wheaton’s 200-medley relay team finished first in a three-team meet against Clark and Mount Holyoke, and also won a dual meet against Trinity. Earlier this year Madden and Lindsey Thomsen of Gorham were part of a NEWMAC team of the week in the 400 free relay.

Elms College senior Keegan Goan of Westbrook broke his own school record in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:05.45. He also took first in his other events (200 medley relay and 50-meter buterfly) as Elms posted its fifth win of the season.

INDOOR TRACK

Ithaca College junior Emilia Scheemaker of Scarborough was named the Empire 8 field athlete of the week on Monday after wining the triple jump and placing eighth in the long jump at Cornell’s Southern Tier Open. Both her triple jump of 11.79 meters (roughly 38 feet, 8 inches) and long jump of 5.17 meters (16-11.5) met the qualifying standards for the ECAC meet.

WRESTLING

University of Southern Maine freshman Daniel DelGallo, the 2013 Telegram Wrestler of the Year from Gardiner, is 9-5 this season after posting a pair of pins over the weekend as USM beat Plymouth State and Western New England.
