Dean Rogers, the Portland Sea Dogs public address announcer for the past 19 years, is resigning to take another job with the franchise.

Rogers, 65, began the same year as the Sea Dogs, in 1994. He said he was looking for a change, but does not want to walk away completely from the Sea Dogs.

"I just want to try something different," Rogers said. His wife, Sharon, works in the Sea Dogs gift shop and his son Mark is a statistician and message board operator during games.

The Sea Dogs will begin looking for a replacement next month. They will stage auditions Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at Hadlock Field.

Interested applicants must fill out a registration form, found online at www.seadogs.com, by Nov. 1.

Rogers, a popular disc jockey in Portland for the past 40 years, became a fixture at Hadlock, known for his low-key, friendly approach.

Rogers may have been best known for his time as a DJ for radio station WYNZ (100.9 FM). Since 2010, he has worked part-time, reading the news. He does that now on WLOB and WJJB.
