Sugarloaf hosts Maine State Golf Championship

Defending champion John Hickson is one of 18 professional golfers vying for the trophy and a share of $7,000 in prize money.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Sixty-five golfers are teeing off for the 23rd annual PGA State of Maine Championship golf tournament at Sugarloaf Gulf Club.

The 36-hole tournament in Carrabassett Valley gets under way Tuesday and ends Wednesday.

Defending champion John Hickson is one of 18 professional golfers vying for the trophy and a share of $7,000 in prize money. Many of the state's top amateur golfers are also entered.
