Join the land trusts along the Georges River for a guided hike of the Whitney Bog and Pettengill Marsh from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free but requires pre-registration, as parking is limited. Snowshoes are advised, depending upon the conditions. Participants should bring water and snacks. The marsh complex is unique for the region and hosts classic examples of unpatterned fen, spruce-larch wooded bog and Atlantic white cedar bog. It is a perfect site to see inland wading bird and waterfowl, as well as rare plants and animals. To register, call 785-2040.

Full Moon Outing
Feb. 25 at 6 p.m., Biddeford
Join the Eastern Trail Alliance for a full-moon ski, snowshoe or walk along the Eastern Trail. Meet at the ET entrance at the rear of the Southern Maine Medical Center parking lot in Biddeford. Bring snowshoes or Nordic skis. The group will head toward Arundel under the full moon without artificial illumination in hopes of observing nocturnal creatures. Woodchucks of Gilsland Farm
Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., Falmouth
Maine Audubon is hosting a free talk on woodchucks by Dr. Chris Maher that will amaze as well as inform you. Her talk will summarize what she's learned about social organization in the population of woodchucks at Gilsland Farm, including the effects of kinship and personality on the behavior of these animals.
