Boys' Roundup: Clippers open by defeating Gray-NG

PORTLAND - Brady Neujahr threw three touchdown passes, two to Matt Klepinger, and Yarmouth beat Gray-New Gloucester 36-6 in a Western Class C football opener Saturday at Deering High.

The Clippers held Gray-New Gloucester to 66 yards.

Klepinger also ran for a touchdown and made an interception. Rhys Eddy caught a touchdown pass and Lucas Uhl scored on a 1-yard run.

Brandon Thibeault rushed for a score for Gray-New Gloucester.

WATERVILLE 62, CAMDEN HILLS 14: Cam Thomas ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns to help the Purple Panthers win an opener at Rockport.

Thomas scored on runs of 1, 4 and 10 yards for Waterville, which broke the game open with 27 points in the second quarter. Brian Bellows scored on a 45-yard run and threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jordhan Levine in the second, and Dan Pooler's 4-yard touchdown run gave Waterville a 41-8 halftime lead.

Pooler scored three touchdowns for the Panthers. Alex Pressey also scored for Waterville.

NOBLE 3, MASSABESIC 2: D.J. Cloutier converted Keegan Whelan's corner kick with just under 10 minutes to play to lift Noble in an opener at Waterboro.

Michael Crowley's penalty kick gave Massabesic a 1-0 halftime lead, but Sean Jackson set up Josh Emard and added an unassisted goal to push the Knights into a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second half. Massabesic tied it with 10 minutes left when Jonathan White's shot deflected off a defender.

PORTLAND 5, SANFORD 0: Ibrahim Dahir and Yusuf Bobe each scored twice to carry the Bulldogs in an opener at Portland.

Dahir scored the only goal of the first half. Charlie Gauvin headed a ball forward from midfield. Jonathan Bobe took the pass and sent the ball through to Sam Farr, who sent it to Dahir at the top of the box. Dahir pushed it into the lower left corner.

Bobe had one of the four second-half goals, and Farr finished with three assists. Dan Kane and Andrew Hoekstra each played a half in goal for Portland and had one save apiece. Tyler Burgess made five saves for the Spartans.

YARMOUTH 4, POLAND 0: Wyatt Jackson scored two of the four second-half goals for the Clippers, who held the Knights without a shot at Yarmouth.

David Clemmer and Chandler Smith also scored.

Zack Low made nine saves for Poland.

BONNY EAGLE 2, BIDDEFORD 1: James Patchell scored both goals from Ryan Kern as the Scots won an opener at Standish.

Patchell collected a through ball from Kern and scored the winning goal from about 10 yards with 12:50 remaining.
