SAN FRANCISCO – The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-hander Ricky Nolasco from the Miami Marlins in exchange for three minor league pitchers Saturday.
The Dodgers sent Steven Ames, Josh Wall and Angel Sanchez to Miami. Los Angeles also received international signing bonus slot No. 96, which is valued at $197,000.

Nolasco, 30, made 18 starts for the Marlins this season, going 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA. He is 81-72 with a 4.44 ERA in 213 games (197 starts) over eight seasons.
The Chicago Cubs originally selected Nolasco in the fourth round of the 2001 draft. He was acquired by the Marlins in 2005 and had been one of the most reliable arms ever since for one of the majors’ most frugal franchises.
Nolasco’s addition should ease the absences of Josh Beckett (left groin strain) and Chad Billingsley (right elbow pain) at the back end of the rotation as Los Angeles looks to make a playoff push.
NATIONALS: Manager Davey Johnson said after Friday night’s game he was probably going to give outfielder Bryce Harper a couple days off, but Harper changed his manager’s mind with a light-hearted text later that night.
“In his text he said ‘Play me or trade me,’ ” Johnson said. “And so since trading’s out of the question, I guess I’m going to play him.”
GIANTS: San Francisco was caught batting out of order, wiping away Buster Posey’s RBI double in the first inning against the Dodgers.
Manager Bruce Bochy submitted a lineup card that had Posey batting fourth. So after Posey hit third in Pablo Sandoval’s spot to give the Giants a 1-0 lead, Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly called out the mistake to umpires.
PHILLIES: Philadelphia placed first baseman Ryan Howard on the 15-day disabled list because of left knee inflammation.
Howard originally was in the starting lineup but was a late scratch. He has struggled while playing through the knee injury, batting .266 with 11 homers and 43 RBI.
PIRATES: Second baseman Neil Walker left the game against the Chicago Cubs because of discomfort on his right side and is day to day.
Walker batted in the first and third innings before Brandon Inge replaced him at second in the bottom of the fifth.
RANGERS: Reliever Joakim Soria’s came through consecutive rehab stints with no issues this week and said he was ready to return. Manager Ron Washington said Soria could be activated Sunday.
Soria was recovering from elbow ligament replacement surgery when the Rangers signed the two-time All-Star to an $8 million, two-year contract last winter with a team option for 2015. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since Sept. 11, 2011, for Kansas City.
PADRES: Catcher Yasmani Grandal left the game at Washington in the third inning because of a right knee injury.
With the bases loaded and one out, Ian Desmond of Washington grounded to first baseman Jesus Guzman. Guzman threw to Grandal for the force at home as Anthony Rendon of Washington slid into the lower portion of Grandal’s right leg, twisting Grandal’s knee.
CARDINALS: Catcher Yadier Molina was sent for medical tests for a knee injury and didn’t play against Florida, but before leaving told teammates he didn’t believe it was anything serious.
Pitcher Adam Wainwright said Molina told him he’d probably be OK with a little rest and the tests were “purely precautionary.” Molina has been among the best players in the National League the first half of the season.
INDIANS: Cleveland recalled right-hander Carlos Carrasco to start against Detroit.
Carrasco, who hasn’t won a major league game since June 29, 2011, was brought up from Triple-A Columbus.
YANKEES: New York reinstated shortstop Eduardo Nunez from the 60-day disabled list.
The Yankees also placed right-hander David Phelps on the 15-day disabled list because of a strain in his right forearm.
• Alex Rodriguez went 1 for 2 with a run during his rehabilitation assignment playing with New York’s Class A Tampa affiliate against the Brevard County Manatees.
• Derek Jeter finished 0 for 2 with a walk and played five innings at shortstop in a rehab game for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders against Lehigh Valley.
