Sabrina Keach led Maine Maritime with two runs, two hits and three RBI.
The Mariners won the first game 10-6, as Kelsie Hilton hit a three-run homer while Keach and Hayley Rae each had two-run shots.
Keach finished the day with four hits and seven RBI.
AMHERST 10, USM 4: Amherst (8-3) won easily in the first game of a doubleheader for the Huskies at Clermont, Fla.
USM's Katie Davis finished with two hits, including a double, the 37th of her career -- a new record for the Huskies.
ST. BENEDICT 12, USM 4: In the second game, St. Benedict (3-2) scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat the Huskies (0-4).
USM's Kristen Duross drove in two runs and Stefanie Stockwell struck out five in six innings for the Huskies.
MAINE, UMBC SPLIT: Maine dropped its conference opener, 4-2, to Maryland-Baltimore County, then regrouped at Baltimore, Md., for an 11-7 second-game win in nine innings to improve to 4-26 on the year.
In the first game, Maine's Hilary Kane had an RBI double in the first and Jean Stevens hit her league-leading seventh homer in the top of the sixth.
Black Bear pitcher Beth Spoehr pitched 52/3 innings, giving up four runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
In the second game, Kane hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Stevens had a solo shot in the third -- her eighth homer.
The Black Bears exploded for six runs to put the game away in the ninth inning on a walk, five singles and a double.
