OREM, Utah – Raheem Singleton made a jumper with less than a second left in regulation, then scored six points in overtime Friday night as the University of Maine men’s basketball team opened with a 71-66 victory against Utah Valley State.

The Black Bears will be at Maryland at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Troy Barnies of Auburn had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Black Bears against the Wolverines (0-1). Singleton added 15 points.

Maine scored the first 10 points of overtime for a 68-58 lead, then held on.

APPRENTICE SCHOOL 78, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 66: Isaih Harrison scored 27 points to lead the Apprentice School at South Portland.

Paul Holland had 16 points, Josh Mackie added 15 and Randall Laing finished with 10 for the Seawolves.

UM-FORT KENT 9, SUNY-CANTON 1: Amine El Moumen had five goals and an assist as the top-seeded Bengals (20-0) routed the fourth-ranked Roos (7-10) in a Sunrise Conference semifinal at Scarborough.

The Bengals will play UM-Machias (8-4, 9-9), which defeated UM-Presque Isle 1-0 on penalty kicks in the other semifinal, in the final at 3 p.m. today.

Luka Odak added a goal and an assist, Henly Comrie, Walford Stewart and Pierre-Luc Couturier also scored, and David Girouard had four saves for Fort Kent.
