PORTLAND - After nearly four hours of waiting, the Portland Sea Dogs postponed their night of baseball Wednesday at Hadlock Field.
Portland was scheduled to begin play at 5 p.m., to complete a game suspended Tuesday night (0-0 after two innings) and follow that with another, a seven-inning game against the Binghamton Mets.
At 8:50 p.m., after the umpires met with Sea Dogs officials and both managers, the decision was made to call the games. Because this was Binghamton's last visit to Portland this season, the decision was made by the league.
Both games will be made up when the Sea Dogs visit Binghamton on July 11-14.
The Sea Dogs announced that fans with tickets to either Tuesday night's or Wednesday night's game can exchange them for a ticket to a future game this season.
The Sea Dogs' staff also handed out vouchers for extra tickets to the fans Wednesday night, a small reward for their perseverance and patience.
Portland begins a four-game series Thursday in Manchester, N.H. Drake Britton, who was scheduled to pitch Wednesday, will pitch Thursday.
The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field on Monday for an eight-day homestand, from July 1-8.
